Who are you and how do I know you?

As I get older, I feel like these aren't rude questions to ask.

Seriously, I moved 11 times and attended 10 different schools and have worked in some large businesses with lots of transfers.

So is it rude to politely ask, "You look famiiar, but I can't quite place you. Could you please refresh my memory?"

I don't mind if people ask me!

One i use: "I'm Mrs X, i've forgotten your name, sorry", then it usually comes back while chatting to them.

Wile out walking the dog the other day, i met someone gardening who said "Hi how is your daughter?" - I just straight out said "she's fine, off to Uni this year", and asked this lady how she knew my daughter? My daughter and her friend had made a big impact on the lady at the time (this lady had taught them for a couple of weeks when they were 11), and therefore she remembered me.

I'm horrible with names to begin with. I hope it's not rude because I often have to ask.

"Refresh my memory" is something I frequently say. There are a lot of people who recognise me from sign language and I can never remember if I taught them or was a student alongside them!

I'm bad at remembering names as well. It happens that some new people start at the place I work at weekends, I met four new people over 2 weekends and yesterday I had a hard time remembering their names. Fortunately, one of them forgot someone's name and asked me, and I just said "no idea, to be honest, I kinda forgot yours too, what's your name again?".
