Deleting posts and/or threads

I have been getting more and more requests from posters to delete posts and/or threads because they have regrets about what they posted. Doing so hurts the integrity of the forum and is frustrating to other users that are truly offering advice/support or following others situations just to have their own posts deleted.

Please keep this in mind when posting. This is a public forum and I have no control over who reads the posts.

Thank you.

How long do threads stay up before you close them?
I was just wondering, because there are so many under some topics, that it's hard to keep track.

wolfgal, I don't know how long the threads stay before they auto-delete from the forum. You'll have to wait for elaine to answer that.

But I can tell you that threads remain open for posting until they do delete. If you come across a closed thread, then a mod locked it for a reason other than age. It could be the OP requested it be locked, or the posts got too far OT and couldn't be redeemed, or the topic was too controversial.

With the forum being new though, I doubt the open threads will be going anywhere for long. Have fun reading and feel free to add something new!

I'm trying to find a definate answer for you, but from what I can tell the threads are not set to auto-delete. I do not close threads unless there is a reason to, like 1dil explained.

I don't understand why anyone would care if posts are eventually deleted. I think it's actually preferable. You may feel a certain way one day and then change your mind. Even if you don't change your mind, what's the big deal?

I was just saying that when there are so many threads open, it gets harder to keep track of all the post.
I was not making a big deal out of nothing FLAlady.

Wolfgal, I was just responding to the thread topic in general to let Elaine and everyone know that I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing when posts are deleted, especially after awhile. I wasn't pointing fingers at you in any way.
