It's complicated...

My DH is on the liver transplant list. He is obese. He needs to lose at least 125 pounds.
His knees hurt. He won't listen. He bargained with me - IF I quit smoking - he would go on a diet. I have quit for over 4 months. Now, it's if I've quit for 6 months.
My son and DDIL have joined Weight Watchers and our DS has offered to pay for 3 months of WW. DH has refused; saying "I will do it my way".
However, his way hasn't resulted in any weight loss. At all. I am very worried about his physical health and also about depression. He won't and can't go walking with me. I am so saddened by this.
He is the only one that can make the changes to his life.
BTW, liver disease makes a person nocturnal - so he is up all night and eating and says he is hungry - but refuses to make good food choices. Even if I have good food in the house, make good food for dinner - he will drive to the store to buy ice cream, make nachos laden with cheese.
I want him to live...

ETA - medications that he is on - that he has to be on - make it difficult for him to drink water - diuretics

Trixxie, I am sorry for this.

You said this:

You need to let him be solely responsible for what he puts in his mouth.

His depression may be getting the better of him. You can make him live a healthy life if he's lost the will to do what he has to in order to make that happen.

(((hugs)))

sadly it has to be his choice

you can report his mood, etc to his dr - they may be able to give him something for depression
