fat cat

sigh - when I took Ghost to the vet he weighed almost 15 pounds (14.8 I think) - he has to go on a diet

I've been having to baby sit the cats while they eat, otherwise he'll eat 1/2 of Princesses' in addition to his own. Princesses lost weight when I tired to change their food to the kind for senior cats (I changed it back, but she didn't regained the weight)

She's now eating more

... and Ghost has lost some weight, about 1/2 a pound

Re: fat cat

You're a good kitty-mama.

I am lazy; I don't think I would take the time to "watch." I would probably feed the skinny one first in a room by herself and remove her food when the other one needs to eat.

Re: fat cat

I struggled with this with my cats - the fat one gobbled up everyone's food (plus connived my DH out of table scraps every time my DH ate something).

snafu, with Ghost being so close to the cutoff for being overweight, maybe it would be easier to just add exercise for him? Does he like to play? I exercised my fatty regularly just by playing with him.

Re: fat cat

I've just built the time watching them into my routine

Ghost is a royal PITA if he's shut out of the room while Princess finishes eating (guess who tried that this morning and DH got up to deal with the loud brat)

Re: fat cat

Ghost has lost a pound - he's @ 13.8! - needs to lose about 1.5-2 lbs

Princess, well she's up .1 to 8.6 she still needs to gain weight - the past few days I've started feeding her a 3rd meal, needs to gain about 3 lbs - to be back at her old weight

Re: fat cat

When you are home, for exercise can you keep putting them outside a door on the opposite side of the house to the cat door, so that they have to walk around to come in again?

Re: fat cat

My cats are completely indoor cats , outdoor cats are not allowed where I live.

Even for indoor cats, that concept can work. Put them in a room furthest from their dinner so they have to walk through the house, encourage them to climb stairs, etc.

I might try this for me!

Oh well, at least you know they aren't stealing food from the neighbours!
