Baby Showers

Is this typical now?

I was invited to a baby shower. Parents are part of the planning, so not a surprise. They include registries, which I looked at and was like, OMG! $100 for a stuffed animal? $400 for a pack and play?

They asked for a books instead of cards, no skin products, and no diapers.

Would it be wrong to just give cash?

Re: Baby Showers

Methinks the $100 stuffed animal and $400 pack and play would be returned for store credit.

I'd give cash or a gift card to the store where they are registered.

I'm curious about the requests. If they were made with good intention, I actually think they're nice - i.e., don't waste money on cards that we're going to throw away when you can spend the same amount of money on a book we'd keep, no skin products because we suspect the baby may have inherited skin sensitivities, and no diapers because we're trying to save the environment and are going to use cloth. But if they were made to be controlling... well, never mind.

Money is always the right color in a gift.

I'd give a gift card instead of cash, and I don't know the going rate for everyone, but I'd keep it at $50.00 or less unless it was a very close relative like a Grandbaby.

I think those registries get ridiculous and sometimes when filling them out, after maybe 10 or 20 items, all that is left is things like $100 stuffed animal. The parents-to-be might not really be wanting or expecting it, but thought, well..."I have to pick more things or my registry is too limited!" (And yes they might have been thinking if they got something like that, they'd turn it back in for exchange or refund).
