My nandina and dwarf crepe myrtles have been coming back year after year... no matter how many times I pull them up and dig them out.

That's how I plant it! I harvest the seeds in the fall when they dry to use in cooking. But I love the fennel most because it attracts black swallowtail butterflies. And fennel does well in the shade. The tall, wispy stalks smell like licorice when the breeze blows. But, yes, controlling it can be a pain.

DD has gotten into gardening this year. She decided we should redo our basic veggie garden into a cottage-style garden. She drew a plan, researched the plants, etc. She doubled the size, put in some hardscaping, a fountain and benches... Now I have to figure out how to landscape my garden on a budget!

The best part is that she included some veggies because she liked the looks of them, but she doesn't want to eat them, and she left the ugly vegetables off the list.
