Natural Hair lightening

Has anyone ever tried to lighten their hair with natural products?

I was wondering how well they worked

Apple cider vinegar may be the one I try.

Re: Natural Hair lightening

I used lemon juice back in the day. It made my hair red.

I need something - I feel that my hair is an uninteresting shade of brown

Re: Natural Hair lightening

I did the honey and 🍎 cider vinegar mix, I'll rinse it out later (supposed to leave it on overnight, not happening)

Two methods I'd like to try (🍋 or vinegar) say to mix with distilled water, maybe I'll try a different method each month.

Re: Natural Hair lightening

I'm just letting my hair go gray. LOL.

There are some natural (botanical extract) shampoos that may help you achieve the look you want without bleach. You might want to research those. I use a shampoo that is meant to reduce brassiness and make gray hair shiny.

Re: Natural Hair lightening

I don't have much gray, but bland blah Brown hair.

I DON'T plan to ever do the honey and vinegar thing again (or either one on its own)!

It was sticky and smelly (duh - what was I thinking)!

I'm using lemon juice mixed 50/50 with distilled water

(does anyone know why distilled water should be used?)

Re: Natural Hair lightening

I don't know but my guess would be the impurities may affect the hair color.

Re: Natural Hair lightening

I thought of you because I have a hair disaster. I got a haircut and needed to touchup my highlights. The stylist suggested I go with a little darker for fall. Sure, I said, but keep in mind that it has to look natural because I work in a very conservative industry with a lot of public speaking. The highlights looked okay, but she suggested a gloss to brighten up more, and that's where things went wrong. Instead of a dark brown with copper/gold highlights, I'm a fake burgundy red head.

I hate it. DH likes it. I'm thinking about using Vitamin C and dandruff shampoo to strip it, but I'm afraid what I'll end up with.

How's your red-highlighted hair going, snafu?
