CubScouts

I'm looking for some ideas for my cubscouts (Webelos, boys ages 9-10)

Right now we're planning on making a bat box for a conservation project.

Other ideas I have (I'm trying to get the boys to generate ideas) are:

candle making
planning & cooking a simple meal for parents at my house
paper making
making their own binder/profolio book for art projects

I'm hoping that if I offer some ideas they'll start brainstorming & come up with some things too. I'd love to hear suggestions.

Re: CubScouts

Think small boy, lol, catch their interest. How about a few bits of wood, some string and rubber-bands, and set them to making a working model Ballista, you know, a Roman-style catapult? Or a ground-level model-car launcher? Get a picture or two, and work out what bits you'll need, then get extra as well, they'll want to experiment as well, let them.
Another good stand-by is a flat board, a stack of nails, and balls of wool or twine, to make those string designs so popular in the 70's.
Large quantities of drinking straws, preferbly plastic, and putty or something similar to join them together, some string, and whatever you can dig up in the way of oddities, feathers, nuts and bolts, bits of wood and stuff, interesting little things, and turn them loose to make "things", let their imagination do the rest.
Hope that helps.
