allergies

How do you combat allergies*?

I'm using a HEPA filter in the furnace; micro vacuum bags - any other suggestions?

ie - how often do you vaccum, dust, wash comforters, do you cover matteress with "mite" proof covers

*DH has allergies & it turns out that DS & I do too

-I wanted to vacuum daily, but both DH & DS thought that was over the top

Re: allergies

When the kids were smaller, I dusted every week with a damp cloth. I vacuumed 2 times a week, and did bedding once a week. Mattresses and pillows were covered with mite-proof covers and pillows were replaced every year. Everything in their rooms (walls, stuffies, etc) were wiped down twice a year.

Now the kids are older and in charge of their own rooms. They never dust, I haven't done my twice/yr cleaning in there for a few years.

I've seen very little difference in their allergies.

If dust in the biggest problem, consider removing carpets from bedrooms and doing hardwood floors because carpets tend to be the biggest offenders.

Re: allergies

ex & DH both are allergic to animal dander (I'm not); pollens (so am I), and I'm allergic to mold; I don't think any of us are allergic to dust.

DS has not been tested...yet. He tends to have more problems in the fall though.

Actually, they eat the skin that has already fallen off and allergic reactions tend to be to their poop.

Happy Halloween!
