Re: Australia-land of contrasts

Well, we've lost another child to the crocs, just south of Darwin, in our outer suburbs, an 11yr old girl this time, plus they caught one in our Botanic Gdns, right in the centre of Darwin, about a ten minute walk from my flat.

Re: Australia-land of contrasts

For balance ... G'day everyone, an 11/12 year old girl was lost to a croc in Darwin ... she and two friends went swimming when the other girls noticed the tail of the croc smack the water and disappear with their friend.

This situation happened at 'Black Jungle Swamp' in a creek that has croc's everywhere ... warning signs are displayed ... they have searched for the croc but have now called the search off because they could not be sure they would kill the right croc ... they are collecting and searching for the little girls remains.

Parents have to hold some responsibility in matters of this nature, the croc was in his own domain. There would be an outcry in Aussie, the world would hear the screams if this was fully the croc fault. Nature has it's pitfalls, we in Aussie are educated to know ... sharks swim in our oceans, harmful snakes and spiders live in our bush ... croc's live at the top end of our nation ... we need to live side by side with nature, not to expect to be invited into their homes as a member of their family ... they are predator's. Huge Hugs Lynnie

Re: Australia-land of contrasts

For more balance:
The girl was staying at friends place, and had been specifically instructed to stay away from the creek, by her own and the other parents, but we all know what kids in that early teen age-group are like, don't we? Don't we?
I'm sure her parents would just love to hear how it's their fault, it would really comfort them no doubt! Until you've lived with crocs, you just can't understand, no matter what idealistic clap-trap you believe. It is not a natural situation up here, due to the sudden cessation of hunting in the 70's, there is an overpopulation of large crocs now, and they're pushing each other into area's they wouldn't normally go. Eventually they will predate each other back to a normal environmentally balanced number, but that's expected to take another 50yrs, at least. Until then, we are in daily danger up here, especially the kids! There is a huge community push to allow limited hunting, or a wide cull, but the fools that think Nature is the be-all and end-all of Life are resisting it, despite it being an un-natural, man-made problem. Pray now for the littlies (and others) that are going to die horribly because of that attitude!

Conservation is about healthy populations not over population - checks and balances
