*update* on sweet GMIL

My GMIL passed away yesterday without my DH or I being able to be there. We knew it was coming but not this soon. It's hard for us to hear the phone ring in the truck with all of the road noise so when MIL called she had to leave a voice msg. By the time we got the msg and called back FIL and DA had already made the arrangements. The service is in the morning. They know DH and I can't get there that quick. They know a truck driver can only drive so many hours in a day but they rushed the service time anyway. My DH is hurting so much because he can't get there in time. FIL has a DB that lives 1000 miles away and he can't get there in time either but they don't seem to care that there are others that would like to say goodbye. Please keep us in your prayers and thx for listening.

Becca,
I'm assuming there is no way you could park the truck for the day and fly out there?

Re: *update* on sweet GMIL

Thanks everyone

No there's no way we could park the truck and fly. The company wouldn't allow it to be parked anywhere. If we parked the truck we would have to take it to the nearest terminal and take all of our things out. They would make us take a load to the terminal first which means we would have to sit until they found us a load. With everything we'd have to do it wouldn't be any quicker than us driving.

The only reason DH could come up with for them not waiting is FIL is laid off for 3 days and is going back to work on Thursday. DH thinks they're "getting it over with" (those are FILs words) so he can go back to work on Thursday.

Re: *update* on sweet GMIL

How sad that the family did not consider you and your DH when making arrangements. And your FIL's comment about "getting it over with" seems extremely shallow when talking about laying a loved one to rest.

Know in your hearts your GMIL knew you loved her. If she is being buried, visit her grave when you can. My condolences to you both.

Re: *update* on sweet GMIL

I am so sorry, Becca. Like Beth said, know that GMIL knew how much you and DH loved and cared for her, and how much she loved you.

As for FIL, well really, I have no idea what to say. Doesn't the man get bereavement pay, or at least time off for bereavement? You have every right to be mad and hurt.
