Re: Motivation - please help

A couple of years ago I went to a dietician. At that time I was drinking maybe 3-4 16oz bottles of soda every day. She told me to switch to diet soda (zero calories vs a couple hundred per). It took about 2-3 weeks to get used to the taste difference, but I finally did.

I still drink a soda everyday, but I've switched from diet to bottled water for two reasons...

1. Water is better for you than soda.
2. I can buy a 24 pack of water for $2.99 where a 6-pack of soda is around $3.75

Keep it up! We're cheering for you!

Note: It took a little while to get used to the water too. But now... I can't see myself drinking anything else. Except my coffee - that I'll never give up... no, no, no... never, never, never...

Re: Motivation - please help

I'm not as concerned about the weight as I need to improve my muscle tone. When I was in high school & got into track my weight went up, while my size went down.

OK...weight in a concern - I'd like to lose at least 20-25 lbs - I've never been this heavy - except when I was pregnate (My BMI is really, really high now)

LOVE your honesty...

And I think you're absolutely right in the fact that weight shouldn't be too much of a concern as long as you feel good in your body.

Having said that, having a clear target usually helps achieving it. But for it not to get too overwhelming and discouraging, try breaking this up in small achievements now (for ex: losing 1 lb every two weeks or every week), so that you can see progress. Progress is always the key to maintain the sacrifices! And give yourself rewards when you achieve these little targets!

And don't forget, you're already doing GREAT!!!!

Re: Motivation - please help

Do you like iced tea, snafu? I found that helped me boot the soda habit. (I was a diet soda drinker though.) Now I'm a tea addict but I like mine plain with no sugar.

Re: Motivation - please help

I'm drinking decaf., unsweetened green tea (tho I do add 1 packette of sugar to a large tea from bread co.)

I am also eating a 2 oz salad for lunch each day (that's a lot of letus/spinach leaves) + only 1 serving (each) of any toppings I want. I discovered that cranberries, cheddar cheese, & chicken go well with Italian dressing.

I am now down 5 lbs from my beginning weight ..... the soda & fast food packed those pounds on.

Re: Motivation - please help

Drop the sugar if ou can. Try sweetener (yes, the sweetener package says it can cause cancer in labratory animals, but you're not a lab animal).

I don't like the taste of sweetners & one type can cause seizures in people who have a history of seizures.

While in college, friends (pre-med) & I figured that one out about a month before an article came out in some mag with that finding (I have epilepsy).

Re: Motivation - please help

Ah. That explains you drinking the full-on sugar stuff. I wondered. What about switching to something like lemonade or vitamin waters? They have sugar, but not quite the melt-your-enamel punch to them. They might help ween you.

If you want the carbonation, there's always sparkling water.

Re: Motivation - please help

I've been drinking water with a slice of lemon in it or tea.

(I think the acquaintance who asked if I was preggers has been my major motivator )
