Don't worry too much about the scales if you are doing more exercises. Scales only tell you how much your physical body weighs. It does not take body composition (muscle weight, fat tissue, water, etc.). The scale will not give you any indication if your weight comes from fat or from muscle mass, which weighs more than fat but takes up less space than fat. So in the end it may mean INCHES lost, even if the scale doesn't show on your scale!

Thanks Prisc. I need to remember that

when I use to run (cough, cough) years ago, my weight went up, but my size went down - yeah for muscle mass (and taking about 1/2 the space of fat)

Re: Motivation - please help

I'm in a real "mood" right now - not sure why

(some) things that normally bother don't and others that normally wouldn't irk me are extreamly irritating right now

One of the things bothering me is the inconsistency of clothing sizes from brand to brand .

I was so happy that I've lost weight & fit in my old (formerly too small) jeans - turns out that they weren't size "y" but even smaller size "x" (I'd had to go up to size "Z"). Wow-huge change right... well, I still don't fit in some of my size "Y" pants in other brands and other size "Y"s fit real snugly - argh!!!!

Re: Motivation - please help

The "mood" may be related to the time of the month.

And that may or may not be related to the way some of your clothes are fitting. TBH, I hate the "vanity" sized pants because they aren't fooling anyone. I know darn right well that those size 12's I've been wearing used to be a 16! There's nothing more frustrating than losing 10lbs thinking you'll be getting into a 10 only to find you still have to lose more weight because the 12's were vanity sized.

Well, that's not true. More frustrating is realizing that you haven't gotten out of those vanity sized 12.

You are doing so well, snafu, focus on the positive!!!

This is frustrating for me, too, especially because I don't really like shopping - I like to get in and get out. Which isn't that simple when you have to try on at least 3 sizes of each item because you have no idea about that particular stores's or brand's sizing system. The numbers, and even the words small, medium, large, etc., don't mean much anymore.

The way I gauge my size is by clothes that I've had a long time. My weight has fluctuated, but I know what years certain pants are from, and I know I'm doing good when I can get them on and done up

Re: Motivation - please help

I'm currently behind my stated goal of a mile a day over 2 yrs - by 10 miles

my (previously) unstated goal is 2,190 miles (3 miles a day average - I used to be able to do six miles 3-5 times a week, so I think I can make it)

Re: Motivation - please help

Jack LaLlane once said he did not like to exercise every day. He said he had to "make" himself exercise every day. Of course, Mr LaLlane made a living as a fitness guru and had to exercise.

Make yourself exercise every day. Watch those days off you take too - they'll sneak up and bite you when you least expect it.

Re: Motivation - please help

snafu! I have a question...

Do you own a Wii, XBox or something like that?

Reason I'm asking is they have dance videos for these things. Dancing is a great way to exercise and keep the weight off. Just a suggestion.

That's great! My wife and I have a Wii and we use the dance programs. The GKids think it's hilarious watching a couple of old people trying to dance to hip hop.

Great way to exercise!
