Talking $64,000 Question

Ok so I am not very imaginative - LOL!!!

Here is your opportunity to pose the questions you always wanted an answer to (but never quite got off your behinds to find out yourselves ).

The first poster (I guess that will be me!) asks a question. Someone else responds to it and then poses their question.

Unless some here is a walking encyclopedia, there maybe questions to which no-one has an answer. However, feel free to comment on the earlier questions, empathise or whatever (so long as it is not insulting or attacking!) in order to pose your own question.

Remember to quote the post you are replying to so there is no confusion.

The answers are to be given on a voluntary basis and no person(s) shall receive any monetary value in exchange for answers.

Demands/bribes of cash for questions shall not be tolerated.

No poster will accept any liability for questions being answered inaccurately, so don't even try to sue - OK?

Happy posing!

I had this a few yrs ago. I took a can of static guard that you spray on your clothes when they have static cling and sprayed it on the car seats. It worked for me.

My question is,

How does a needle pick up music from a groove on a record player?

I've always wondered.

My kids would ask "what's a record player?"

As the record rotates, the needle picks up the vibrations that were "encoded" in the grooves of the LP. It transmits the vibrations either electonically or magnetically (depending on the type of system) to the part of the record player that converts the vibrations into sound.

Is that a good enough answer to warrant me asking a question?

I want to know what natural predator fire ants have. I hate fire ants.

Waterbugs. (please allow me to refer you to this rule of the game: No poster will accept any liability for questions being answered inaccurately, so don't even try to sue - OK?)

I was always told that everything created had a purpose. What is the purpose of a gnat?

ETA the correct answer. The Phorid Fly from Brazil is a natural predator used by the USDA. http://www.landscapemanagement.net/l....jsp?id=279574

Food for very small carnivores? (please allow me to refer you back to the rule of the game )

I believe they're also decomposers - a very important function in nature (although I prefer it not be in my house).

Oh crud... now I have to ask a question...

How do tankless water heaters heat the water so quickly?

(ETA - I should have asked how I can import Phorid Flies!)

These things are awesome. They heat the water as it passes through them. This, in turn, eliminates the tank part and saves space. It also allows for a constant flow of hot water (you know, when the "misses" takes a shower before you do).

My question: The appendixhas a purpose. What is it?

It's believed that the appendix houses healthy bacteria to replenish the small intestine in the case of severe illness. When a body contracts intestinal disease, the healthy bacteria can be flushed out (literally, ewwww ). The appendix restores the healthy balance again.

What are Schwenkenfelder's? We have a large Schwenkenfelder Church around us, a nursing home, etc.
