Mindfulness
Has anyone tried this approach?
What are the pros, cons, and suggestions?

Re: Mindfulness
KayKay, mindfulness is a quasi-psychological experience of meditating on the current situation, feelings, etc, to help get in touch with them, process them, and relieve anxiety. It has it's origins in Eastern meditation. The anecdotal evidence supports its effectiveness, but the psychological studies are mixed.
I don't do mindfulness. I do meditate. I use an app for the Examen, ideally twice a day, but I use one when I'm feeling particularly challenged. Because it's a form of prayer, I won't say any more. ![]() |

Re: Mindfulness
Mindfulness is about stopping and being in the present. There is meditation but it's also about pausing to breath in fresh air, smelling the flowers, using all your senses to take in the moment.
For example eating a piece of food. Not just doing it for the sake of doing it but looking at it, smelling it, keeping it in your mouth long enough to explore the tastes, where they appear on the tongue, exploring the textures, the sound it makes. It's about grounding you, calming you bringing you back to your roots. Hopefully, by doing so you also come into your adult ego, the place from which sound and balanced reasoning comes! I love the idea of mindfulness, however, it's one of those things that make me feel that I may have ADD!

Re: Mindfulness
Ohhhhh. I think I partially do something like that, but not intentionally. I don't meditate so much on psychological feelings or anything, but I do a lot of "taking in the moment."
snafu, are you trying to combat anxiety?
