Quit smoking and I gained weight!

problem is, I cannot exercise in the usual way, such as walking, running, lifting weights.
I am fused from my skull to c4, so my mobility is seriously limited.

I would love to do something, I used to work out 5-6 times a week and high impact. It helped get the blood flow to my back muscles. Now it just hurts! Plus, with my condition I cannot due jumping or high impact.

I have been bike riding, but it doesn't get the aerobic heart rate I would like to help my heart, and also lose weight.

Thoughts? Other low impact excercises? I cannot do pilates, some yoga I can do.

It really limits me.

I can't offer exercise advice; I think you should talk to a PT for that.

But, I'd say to try chewing gum, especially the sugarless gum. It helps with keeping your hands and mouth busy. But beware of the ones with sorbitol because it's been associated with IBS.

Congratulations! It is awesome that you quit smoking. I watched all my aunts and uncles go through the quitting process and I have a ton of respect for that.

Swimming is a great option if you have access to a community center or something similar. I have heard of low impact aerobics classes being offered actually in the water.

A LOT of the swim centers around here have these sorts of classes--in-water exercise. Very protective of joints and so on. Obviously you'd need to ask your doc to be sure. Check out local adult schools, recreational district offerings, community colleges, Ys and so on, etc. Here, we get flyers from a lot of these places that have sorts of activites and classes in them, but you might need to seek them out a bit more, depending on where you are.

Hi trixxie,
How about doing swimming? Do start any exercise and try to be regular.
Swimming involves most of the parts while swimming and best to reduce weight.
