Growing grapes?!?

DH has lunch at the same place everyday and he's made friends with the owners. They trade produce from our gardens. It's been fun and informative.

Well, the owner offered DH some raspberry bushes and grape vines. He is so excited about building a trellis and growing his own grapes.

I'm not so sure.

Anybody here grow grapes? Or do we all just like to drink them!

Re: Growing grapes?!?

I've been growing a vine for 4 yrs. It produced a few grapes last year, but by the time I noticed they were raisins...

I had no idea the vines took that long to start producing.

Yeah, it takes time to establish itself. I havent done any pruning or tying or anything except to mulch, and fertilize around the roots, so my vine isn't the best example. It's in a part of the yard I hardly ever go to, so I kind of forget about it.

Love grapes (and wine) just not sure I'd be able to wait that long. Waiting two years for raspberry canes to mature was torture enough for me!
