just so tired over this...... even if both of them were my children and one lived with me full time and one lets say only came home on weekends from collage I would still give the room to full time child. guess everyone has a different way.
I don't want to pick at this... I think I misunderstood your purpose of the original post.

I though you were looking for advice because you wanted to do what was best for your family. But I think your mind was made up and you wanted affirmation that you were making a good choice. Is that correct?

If that is the case, then disregard all the advice you were given and do what you want to do. You're the mother who has to live there and be responsible for the decisions you make. If having your "full time" child's things in storage makes you feel worse than not treating a "part-time" child as a full family member, then by all means, do what makes you feel good. Your "parttime" child will eventually just stay with her mom anyway.

Is the smaller room a "worse" room though? - At 12, my daughter would have LOVED the smaller room if she was allowed to have her bed up high like a loft or mezzanine, with a computer desk and storage under it. Would you be able to do something like that, and allow her to make it *hers* and special in some way? - I really wouldn't want two adolescent girls sharing a room anyway, that might be the real bullet you are dodging here.
