family holidays at sil...

...and what I learned.

Dimming lights thru out house makes clutter and dirt blend in with garish decorations.
BUT! The French clown ornaments are and always will be creepy. Something about the black holes for eyes? At least dust them off, mebbe.
The cookies from 19 homes you have shlepped back to your guests are stale. Probably been sneezed and coughed upon by their family and guests, smothered in plastic wrap and now on your table for your family/guests.
I know you don't care sil, what munchies I bring since you don't give a hoot about your nieces food sensitivity at all (Italian heritage) and you even TOLD me this...my donation will be FRESH made.
Your home is cold. You make us remove shoes? Really? The floors are like a sheet of ice. Won't miss that!!
Sitting in the dark, freezing, hungry, bored to tears listening how great you are, is not my idea of your ability to be a good hostess.

I love to hear the bil talk of how hard he worked trying to get tree and clowns up, food shopping, etc while you were at friends collecting their left over sneeze cookies. Yech.
Then to watch you hand the nieces/nephews gifts you made or bought while passing up my daughter.
It didn't dawn on me until recently why my husband back then, your husbands brother was so complimentary to you. And your deli purchased peppers. You two have been having an affair.
Now I understand why, for the first time ever, my husband insisted on bedroom furniture that was quite similar to yours.
Nuff said.

I'm not laughing at your pain, JemStar, but your description was very funny and probably spot on. I have to admit to stifling a giggle.

I am sorry that the whole situation happened, but I'm glad that (1) you're out of that, (2) you found out the truth and (3) you have healed enough that you can manage to find humor in it.

Clowns? At Christmas?

Clown at any time!

Great description, Jem, I am glad you're venting. I hope it brings you some peace. (((Hugs)))
