(((snafu)))
Lucy is right. You have a very important role in DS's life. You may not get to suffer through, er, uh, go to tank museums with DS, but you are his rock.

Re: need help dealing
![]() I think DS sees me as "The Parent" aka she who is not fun but makes sure he gets to do fun stuff like band trips (Disney, Chicago) - and will pay out the nose for the college he wants (well, he'd like me to) ...and he sees his dad (my ex) as his financially irresponsible friend that he has fun with. (that he won't even discuss college with)

Re: need help dealing
If it makes you feel any better, the dynamics are pretty much the same in my family and a lot of other families I know.

Re: need help dealing
^^ Yep.
I asked DH to address a problem with one of the kids. He had two weeks to do it, but instead he played pool, had a beer, binge watched... He never mentioned it. I finally addressed it yesterday. I'm the serious parent. He's the playmate. But, they respect me and they know that I'm there when something is serious. I just tell them, every comedienne needs a straight man or the joke falls flat. ![]() |

What's triggering this? And what are you doing to battle it?

Re: need help dealing
sigh.... I'm trying (note trying) to think positively
Anyway - its that time of year when DS prefers his dad's family & I'm realizing that if/when he has a family I'll most likely never see DS (or his family) for the holidays ....

![]() At the point where DS has a place (then family) of his own, you will most likely be welcome to celebrate holidays with him, snafu. It may be a weekend before deal, but you will see him (especially if you are willing to travel to him). Right now he wants to spend holidays with X's family because he loves and misses them. Once he moves out on his own, you will also be someone he loves and misses and wants to spend holidays with. Take care of yourself. Do something this weekend to nurture your soul.
