Re: empty nest
I asked my DM how she dealt with it - she said it was really hard as not only were we gone, but none of our friends stopped by anymore either.

Re: empty nest
LOL... I asked my mother about the "empty nest" after my younger sister left. She said she rather enjoyed all the free time.
My wife had a pretty tough time after our youngest left, but that changed a few years later when she took on watching the GKids while DD was working for corporate America. Me? I'm a survivor. And clueless. |

Re: empty nest
I am rediscovering the joy of leftovers.
![]() Y'all... I can make a chicken salad tomorrow with the leftovers from tonight's roasted chicken. Do you KNOW how long it has been since I have been able to make chicken salad? *sniff* Dh discovered leftover meatloaf in the fridge last week and was so excited. LOL. He ate that PLUS his regularly scheduled dinner.

Re: empty nest
having children around is a wonderful learning experience....not only having our own children, but also, our children's friends...
but as in all things in life, we don't own our children, and as much as we had our time, our children need theirs, to get out there and maybe stumble and fall, pick themselves up and hopefully learn from their own mistakes. Our job is over...and now it's their turn to learn from adulthood. We did the best that we could do, and it was indeed for me, one of the bestest times of my life...but, life doesn't stop, it keeps on moving...and we must move with it...into a new life...one that could be rich with more learning experiences and much happiness....I guess it's all in how you look at it.... One thing for certain, we never ever stop learning. Snafu...we as parents will always be as such...however, the empty nest can be a gift in itself, if we allow it to be. sending hugs.... |

Re: empty nest
I have discovered an unexpected side to empty nest. The pets get empty nest too.
![]() One of my cats (15yo male) died the week before DD moved out. My alpha male cat has become a very needy shadow following me around. He misses DD and his buddy. My girl cat has taken to sleeping where the other cat slept, and jumping in my lap at every opportunity. They both seem very lonely.
